Professional self-improvement of employees: motivation and reality

Abstract

The article presents a presentation of the results of the study of motivation for selfimprovement in the system of labor motivation of employees on the example of a large Far Eastern fishing company. The fishing industry was selected due to the high importance
of this area for the development of the regional economy, the large number of employees involved, and rapid changes in production technologies that require timely personnel training. The company's development strategy requires the provision of the
industry with personnel motivated to acquire new knowledge and master modern technologies. The study was conducted with the aim of identifying the features of motivation for training employees as a mechanism for the implementation of self-improvement and
professional development. The methodological basis of the study was a psychological and sociological approach to the study of the structure of motives for work and the construction of motivational profiles based on a comparative analysis of the results in the
context of various categories of positions. The main research method used was a survey of employees, as well as statistical methods of data processing. As a result, significant differences between employees in assessing the generally accepted motives of work
were established, their significance was determined; the level of motivation for training and the characteristics of the motivational sphere of the ship's personnel were revealed; according to the degree of importance of motives and their severity, the interviewed
employees formed motivational profiles, obtained data on the subjective assessment of the level of their qualifications; the factors contributing to the increase in the desire for self-improvement have been studied. In order to optimize the processes of managing
employee motivation, it is proposed to use individual approaches to motivating training, improving training methods. The conclusion is made about the positive influence of changes in the system of motivation on professional self-improvement and the activities
of employees in general.
